American Civil Liberties Union

There has never been a more urgent need to preserve fundamental privacy protections and our system of checks and balances than the need we face today, as illegal government spying, provisions of the Patriot Act and government-sponsored torture programs transcend the bounds of law and our most treasured values in the name of national security.

American Sociological Association et al v Chertoff
9/25/2007

Professor Adam Habib

In May of 2007, Habib applied for a visa that would allow him to travel to the U.S. to attend speaking engagements, including the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association in August 2007, but the government did not process his application in time for him to attend. He has received a number of invitations to speak at upcoming events in the U.S. but the government still has not processed his application. The case, American Sociological Association v. Chertoff, is being litigated before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
