Five Things You Can Do
Five
Things for You to Do to Start to Take Our Country Back and Restore the
Constitution
1.
Call your Elected Representatives!
Make sure your elected officials hear from you and know where you stand on
habeas restoration. As a constituent, you can vote for them or against them, and
need to keep them accountable. You can contact your Members of Congress through
the Capitol Switchboard (202-224-3121).
2.
Write a letter to the editor about the elimination of habeas corpus and
the other problems in the Military Commissions Act (MCA). Get the word out
through newspapers, newsletters, blogs, personal websites, academic publications
and more.
3.
Take Action through ACLU Action Alerts: Sign up to find out important
ways that you can take action to help restore the Constitution. Visit www.aclu.org/action and click on “Join the
ACLU Action Network” (button in the right column). You’ll keep up to date on all
the latest news and information as well as other exciting opportunities to take
action and restore our Constitution such as national conference calls, town
halls, and web-chats.
4.
Host a House Party and invite all your closest friends. Rent the movie
“Road to Guantanamo” or email field@dcaclu.org for the chance to receive a
“Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” DVD to start the conversation and encourage your friends
to do their part to restore the Constitution. You could also organize an outing
to see the new movie “Rendition” and host coffee and desert afterwards to
facilitate discussion. For background on the issues, go to www.aclu.org/habeas
5.
Keep the discussion going! Talk to your friends, neighbors, family and
others in your community about the problems in the Military Commissions Act and
let them know they can act to restore the Constitution. Forward ACLU Action
Alerts to your friends, family, colleagues and neighbors. Communicate with your
local community, religious and other leaders to request that they sign up for
ACLU Action Alerts and take action. For more information visit: www.aclu.org/habeas
