The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation is a national public interest
organization with 50+ affiliates around the country devoted to the defense of
the Bill of Rights. The Development Department of the National Office in New
York City is seeking a full-time Major Gifts Senior Coordinator who, as a member
of the Major Gifts department, will participate in an aggressive, rapidly growing
major gifts program. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Major Gifts and working
closely with the Senior Manager of Major Donor Relations and the Director of
Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Senior Coordinator will provide planning, operational,
administrative, and organizational services in support of fund-raising activities
of the Major Gifts Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Work closely with the Deputy Director of Major Gifts, the Senior Manager
of Major Donor Relations and the Director of Major Gifts on strategies for
their $100,000+ donor portfolios including maintaining senior staff schedules,
working on logistics for donor meetings, organizing trips involving face to
face visits with major donors, and preparing materials and publications
- Write, edit and proofread donor and other communications, draft and produce
individualized acknowledgments for the organization’s top donors
- Work closely with national and affiliate Development staff to maximize donor/prospect
cultivation and revenues
- Manage a prospect/donor management tracking system to track strategies,
activities, contact and goals for current and prospective major donors to
ensure annual revenue targets through fundraising database
- Create and maintain development fundraising progress reports and analyze
results for senior Major Gifts staff
- Implement and monitor gift recording and acknowledgement process for the
major gifts department
- Implement protocols and procedures for the operations of the major gifts
department
- Interact with senior program and executive staff to manage schedules for
major gifts activities and trips
- Assist in the coordination of selective donor cultivation events;
- Undertake special projects and other administrative support, as assigned,
by the Deputy Director of Major Gifts and the Director of Major Gifts
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three to five years of experience in donor relations or client services
required
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain tact, diplomacy,
and confidentiality while representing the organization and interfacing with
all levels of staff at the national and affiliate offices, as well as with
volunteers, donors, and outside vendors
- Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability
to compose, edit, and proofread correspondence and other documents required
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and apply strong analytical
thinking skills
- Experience working in Development departments of complex nationwide organizations
- Must be computer literate, and be highly proficient in Microsoft software
and have experience using complex database systems
- Must have a strong commitment to the mission of the ACLU
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary is commensurate with experience, within the parameters of the ACLU compensation
