Young Professionals Social Networking Intern-New York Civil Liberties Union (4/23/2008)

NYCLU Young Professionals Social Networking Intern

The New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), the New York affiliate of the ACLU, is one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights. Founded in 1951, the NYCLU is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization with six chapters and nearly 50,000 members statewide.

In 2007, the NYCLU created a group for Young Professionals (22-40) to support the work of the NYCLU by raising funds, spreading awareness, and building a community of like-minded New Yorkers and advocates for change.

Position Summary:
The NYCLU Young Professionals are seeking an intern to facilitate social networking and event planning. The intern will be working side by side with the Young Professionals co-chairs - a professional grassroots organizer and a public interest attorney – to assist in recruitment for membership and events, conduct various research projects concerning fundraising, and help build the Young Professionals’ online presence. The internship is unpaid but is a great resume and skill builder. College credit may be available.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong communication and organizational skills;
  • Excellent understanding of online social networks and web technology;
  • Ability to accomplish tasks independently; and
  • Passion for civil liberties and social justice.

This opportunity begins as soon as the right candidate is identified and will be renewed or re-staffed seasonally (spring, summer, fall, and winter). Applicant must be twenty-one years or older and be able to dedicate six to ten hours per week. The intern will be able to do most work from home but will be expected to attend NYCLU Young Professionals events and to participate in field work throughout New York City. Please send a resume and a cover letter to youngprofessionals@nyclu.org.

The NYCLU Young Professionals are an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and LGBTQ individuals are strongly encouraged to apply.
