The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a national not-for-profit
public interest organization devoted to the defense of the Bill of Rights is
seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Bookkeeper in its
Accounting Department.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Bookkeeper will report directly to the Accounting Manager. The responsibilities
are as follows:
- Prepare, code and enter accounting transactions including cash receipts,
cash disbursements, accounts receivable, accounts payable and journal entries.
- Review, analyze and reconcile credit card statements to Development &
Membership Department reports and bank statements.
- Process invoices for payment in a timely manner.
- Maintain records for departments/projects.
- Handle preparation and distributions of annual 1099 tax forms.
- Prepare monthly expenditure statements and schedules.
- Organize, sort and maintain accounting files.
- Prepare various schedules, reports, spreadsheets and projects.
- Process and prepare correspondence.
- Organize and maintain mailing lists, staff lists, and other lists.
- Respond to verbal and written inquiries regarding accounts payable, accounts
receivables, and other accounting information.
- Act as liaison between departments & Projects.
- Fax, file, maintain incoming mail and office supplies, and handle other
general office duties as assigned.
- Other projects as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and two years of experience in a
related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with colleagues.
- Proven ability to work under pressure in an organized manner.
- Strong multitasking and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Solid knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
- Knowledge of non-profit accounting software a plus.
COMPENSATION: Salary of $32,521.81. Excellent health and welfare benefits.
