The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the nation’s
largest civil liberties organization, is seeking dynamic Youth Marketing
Interns starting the Summer of 2007. The Youth Marketing
Interns will help increase awareness of the ACLU’s mission and work among
people ages 18-29. The Youth Marketing Interns will report to the Senior Associate
for Youth Communications and will be based at the ACLU’s National Office
in New York, NY.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Youth Marketing Interns are responsible for assisting with StandUp (www.aclu.org/StandUp),
our multi-faceted communications campaign which seeks to raise awareness of
the ACLU’s work and mission among young people including students and
non-students. Specifically, the Youth Marketing Interns will:
- Help administer StandUp projects to educate youth about the government’s
abuse of power.
- Conduct research on youth marketing trends, media outlets, and related news.
- Help maintain our informal relationships with youth rights/advocacy organizations.
- Research and provide up-to-date information on the youth work of ACLU affiliates
and chapters.
- Draft correspondence for the ACLU Youth listserv to inform affiliates and
staff about our youth projects.
- Proof and edit correspondence on an as needed basis.
- Help with our overall MySpace/social networking strategy.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate with some college experience preferred. College degree
a plus.
- A strong commitment to the goals and mission of the ACLU.
- Knowledge of youth-related trends and pop culture.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers and the Internet, including
Internet research and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with basic marketing and/or design principles a plus.
A minimum commitment of 20 hours per week for a 2-3 month period is preferred.
Interns are highly encouraged to obtain funding from outside sources as the
position is unpaid and available for academic credit only.
